Each student in the seminar was given a picture with no context and told that we should not look for the context of the picture. We were given a set of questions that we should answer using the picture given.
What time period, decade or year do you think this photograph was created in? What visual cues support your choice?
Can be seen in this photo that it was in a time of war and the evidence for that is the tank wheels effect in the dirt and the presence of soldiers and In the foreground: a young gypsy suspected of being guilty. so i think it was a second world war, where the picture is clear so it is not that longer time so i would say it was taken in 1938 to 1945.
Where in the world was this photograph taken? Again, please detail your reasons for asserting your choice.
I think it is either in France or Slovakia because there is no such things as destruction. so i can tell if the second world war was in its infancy and the first countries targeted at the beginning of the war were France and Slovakia.
In a short paragraph, how would you describe the key visual elements of the photograph? What is contained within the frame?
The photograph contains a gypsy with a clippers on his hand looking for something in a sadness way and there is a house with out door and window. polices with a dog are every where with some civilians queue look like waiting for something. there is also a guy in the back he is look like civilian and i think he is looking for something. the soil look damage because of the wheels tank and there is also some trees twinge as i think on the ground.
How is/are the human subject(s) of the photograph engaging with the camera/photographer?
The subject is not looking at the camera/photographer, and perhaps he did not notice them as he seemed to be thinking
What, if any directions do you think the photographer may have given to the subject(s) of the photograph?
I think the photographer have not directed the subject of the photograph, the picture was taken without attention from those in it.
What do you believe the photographer wants, you, the viewer to take from the image?
A sense of security, safe, freedom and not to desire to leave your homeland if it is safe just because non acceptable reason and standing in the ranks of the oppressed and try to help them if you can.
